The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government program designed to provide financial assistance for basic dental services to children and teenagers. Launched to promote better oral health among young Australians, the CDBS helps reduce the cost barrier for essential dental care, ensuring that children can maintain healthy teeth and gums from an early age.
Eligibility
The CDBS is available for children who meet all of the following criteria:
Aged between 0 and 17 years for at least one day of the calendar year.
Eligible for Medicare.
Part of a family receiving certain government payments, such as the Family Tax Benefit Part A or other relevant Australian Government payments.
Benefits and Services
Under the CDBS, eligible children can receive up to $1,095 in benefits for dental services over two consecutive calendar years. This amount can be used for:
Examinations and Assessments — routine check-ups to monitor dental health.
X-rays — diagnostic imaging to identify issues not visible during examination.
Cleaning — professional cleaning to remove plaque, tartar, and stains.
Fissure Sealing — a protective coating to prevent decay on chewing surfaces.
Fillings — treatment for cavities to restore function and appearance.
Root Canals — treatment to save a tooth with infected or damaged pulp.
Extractions — removal of teeth that are beyond repair or causing overcrowding.
Please note: The CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatments, cosmetic dental work, or any dental services provided in a hospital setting.

3
Inform Us of CDBS
Let us know you wish to use the CDBS for your child's treatment. We can verify eligibility and discuss costs.
4
Consent to Treatment
You will sign a consent form acknowledging how much of the benefits will be used before treatment begins.
Important Considerations
Annual Cap: The $1,095 benefit cap is spread over two years. Unused benefits do not carry over to a new two-year period.
Out-of-Pocket Costs: If treatment costs exceed the CDBS benefits, you may need to cover additional expenses. Discuss costs with us beforehand.
Private Health Insurance: You can use private health insurance alongside CDBS benefits, but you cannot claim both for the same service.
